Thrifted: $3 bedroom curtains (and how to hang them)
Do you ever feel like you ignore your bedroom? I know we do. We have some things in there that make absolutely no sense. Sometimes I look at it and think "this is where furniture goes to die." RIP. I get it though, no one sees your bedroom other than you and your spouse (if you're single and this applies to you either you have no shame or get to decorating!)
So when I stumbled on these cute curtains for $3, I knew they'd be perfect for our bedroom window. They reminded me of this Ralph Lauren fabric I loved when I first started decorating. It's almost that kind of coral pattern that's borderline not-okay unless you live at a beach-house, but the pattern is so tight that I think it's alright. I'm rapping now.
This is a fun trick I learned from my step-mom a long time ago... Always hang your curtains higher and wider than your window. It'll make it look much larger. (There's a good guide regarding this on Pinterest: find it here.)
I hung mine 5 inches from and above the window frame. Every window is different so I usually just eyeball it, but I'd say stick with even measurements. The curtain rod was $5 from KMart.

I have this rule when finding things at a thrift store: If it doesn't survive a bleaching and a sage burning (call me crazy, but I do it) it's too bad/so sad.
These curtains were troopers and came out of their double bleach bath white and pearly.
The long piece across the top is supposed to act like a frilly valance, so I opted not to use it and will save it for a project down the road.

And here's the after!
I really love how they turned out. I can't believe how much bigger the window looks! And can you believe that bed-spread and hydrangeas just came outa nowhere like that? So perfect for an after picture.

palm beach's antiques row
my step-grandmother Leta has a wonderful blog called Decorating with Sheets, and it recently made me aware of a new website dedicated to Antiques Row in the heart of Palm Beach, and some of the shops over on Dixie Highway. They've banded together to create what sort of feels like "1st Dibs: Palm Beach Edition".
you can see some of the antiques she's used in the room below (how clever are the ginger jars over the doors?!)
Antiques Row is a great source for inspiration, and a great way to peruse expensive stuff without turning into that whole distracted-bull-in-a-china-shop thing.
Here are some of my favorites:

Alex's e-decor: DIY Brass Vittsjo Shelf
e-decor can be a wonderful alternative to expensive interior design. I'll also pop your DIY cherry.
Alex wanted to get working on projects asap, so brought her design template to Ikea, found this shelf, used my favorite gold spray paint, and voila!
Isn't it amazing what she did in under 2 hours?? (and major props on your shelf styling girlfriend)

homegoods sundays
Stumbled upon some great things at homegoods while shopping for a client (that's right, I said client)

take a gander

the dresser is so reminiscent of Kelly Wearstler's instagram feed. So is that tray. And that rug is a pretty decent Madeline Weinrib knockoff.
Also found some outfit things for Lulu. She approves.

Before & After: Entryway mini-chest
Our house is equipped with so little closet space that any addition of drawers is a welcome addition.
I found this mini-chest with cute little bamboo details for $10 on craigslist which was perfect for hats, gloves and scarves in our entryway, and with a little love it cleaned right up!
The body needed two coats of Rust-Oleum Protective enamel paint in high gloss white, and I sprayed the knobs with Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold, a personal favorite.

newsflash, new biz
It's finally time I tell you... I started a biznass. I've been working on Jennifer Risk Interiors for a while... ya know, behind the scenes, making everything look aight. But now that it's out in the open, I can be like YAY I'M SO EXCITED.
Jennifer Risk Interiors is my own version of interior design. It's interiors with a twist. My philosophy is simple. When you walk in your front door you should absolutely love what you see. You should love every ounce of it. The details should sing to you. You should get excited about your umbrella stand. You should catch yourself standing in the middle of your living room starting at your bookcase because you love it so much. It flows, it functions, and you love it. That's the kind of love that I can help you attain. And I believe this is attainable on any kind of budget.
Here's what I'm offering:

DIY Standing Parsons Desk
Super easy.
A parsons style desk is ridiculously simple to build because everything is square and symmetrical.
Screw the top to the legs and trim the sides. Then paint! I used rustoleum oil based protective enamel in gloss white. The best!

A parsons style desk is ridiculously simple to build because everything is square and symmetrical.
You need:
4 4x4s for legs - mine are 58 inches high.
1 inch thick plywood - mine is cut 20'x54'.
3 inch wide flat trim to go around.
Brass bracket hardware.
Home Depot will cut all your wood for you for free.

Baskets are from Home Goods. Totally a Serena and Lily rip off. Eeey!

The before is just ew. But it's what happens when you want a standing desk NOW because you just read an article that said sitting will slowly kill you.
